About ASL
ASL is a long established family company, which has earned an enviable reputation and prides itself in offering a friendly, professional service at a fair price.
“We are a values - driven company, committed to delivering a high level of service to our customers, this, combined with providing solutions to challenging problems, has been, and will continue to be, the key to our success”.
The media have repeatedly exposed the need for more and more qualified trades people to be trained in the domestic market. For decades, fewer and fewer are given the opportunity in the drainage industry for in-house, or specialised training.
Customers often tell us they randomly pick us out of the ir local directory or a small ad in the newspaper. They feel vulnerable - they're often not served.
ASL Ltd believe in training.
Customers are benefiting from thousands and thousands of pounds spent on training:
In-house training - we meet every morning at 7.00 a.m. Each one of us in turn starts the meeting, some only lasting for 30 seconds, and gradually, over time, increasing their time considerably as they gain confidence. W e, the audience, support them by asking questions.
Typical subjects and things learned:
What to do when the situation is overwhelming.
How to cope.
How t o ask for help by phoning a colleague, knowing that it doesn't make one feel inferior.
How to answer a colleague who is in difficulty, knowing it does not make us superior.
We talk about what makes a team.
Strengths and weaknesses.
How to handle adversity and disappointment.
We share simple things that make a difference.
How to find out you're working to the right of the Inspection Chamber.
How to confirm which way the flow is going, while the Inspection Chamber is full to the brim etc., etc .
We undergo the following training courses on a regular basis:
SWRSA course, required for operatives who are carrying out excavations in the main public road for a main sewer connection. This requires the engineer to attend an appropriate establishment, often away from home, for one week. There are also periodic updates.
Confined Spaces course s can be from one day to one week depending on the experience of the engineer.
High Pressure jetting courses .
Training for domestic drainage engineers regarding private sewage systems and installations – from one day to one week courses.
Electrical engineers for sewage pumps & treatment plants. They come to us after years of training, usually having been to college for 3 years.
Health and Safety courses for everyone. We also regularly talk about health and safety during our morning meetings. We take Health and Safety very seriously.
All our employees carry a kit bag containing safety glasses, ear defenders, hard hats, dust masks and other appropriate P.P.E.
I nstallation courses that combine three unique ways to learn:
1. Study at home, coursework and regular written assignments.
2. Home based PC based e-learning, studying real life scenarios in a virtual reality house.
3. Practical study, in fully equipped yard & workshops.
It's an extremely thorough and well-planned method of learning and be ing able to retain the information necessary to become a fully qualified tradesman.
The training our employees receive has been specifically designed, using techniques developed over the last 12 years, to allow them to train according to their lifestyle, and to fit their studies around their work time – they earn while they learn.
We combine the written theory with working, through computer game-style `real life' scenarios.
It's a more memorable way to learn, it' fun, engaging and, because we're used to learning through video, TV and our computer screens, it's easier to remember what is seen. When they have attained key standards, they then practice in our fully - equipped yard and workshop.
By all of the above methods, we learn how to provide the best service to our very valued customers, which we hope you will become one of.
